2 H Digital citizenship 2020-2021

Class 2 H is working on the eTwinning project "Heroes and Heroines of Language" on the eTwinning platform, which is a powerful and safe environment where students get knowledge and competences related to Digital Citizienship, one of the pillars of this year Civic Education syllabus.

Besides, Digital Citizenship is one the of the main topics of this year UNESCO project.

Among the several activities students aare engaged with, we would like to mention the following:

28.10.2020 Students discuss whether they can
access online information and digital content
search for and find relevant information
effectively select resources
access Open Educational Resources, OER, Open Educational Resources;
browse dedicated portals (e.g. educational resources, translation services), forums, social networks, dedicated applications
develop personal strategies to find information and share information with sharing options
access and navigate the Microsoft Teams Institute platform
carry out these operations both from mobile devices and from a fixed computer and do research work on OPEN EDUCATIONAL RESOURCES

Students carry out an assignment on Teams about OER

7.11.2020 Students discuss such themes as
the why, the how, the where of open education, OER’s five Rs, Creative Commons, examples of open courses/universities/academies

Students carry out this hands-on task: concept mapping about OER, sharing your product via a Teams assignment by set deadline

14.11.2020 Students discuss the video “Digital citizenship and you”, especially on how they want represent themselves digitally, contextualizing items like: definition of digital citizen; different uses of the Internet; digital footprint; What TMI is; How to protect your private information; Cyberbullying; Hacking as a felony crime)

Students carry out the following hands-on task_Part I: pair work, 2’ presentation

17.11.2020 Part II Students present their ppts related to “Digital citizenship and you”, while the rest of the class takes notes

13.2.2021 Groupwork in breakout rooms. Students
analysing the vocabulary of the quiz “Exploring reliability in the online world”
do the quiz
make a list of the vocabulary they find essential and fill in a padlet
comment on the work done

20.2.2021 Reading comprehension, interaction and note taking on filter bubbles, information bubbles, trackers, profile creation, search engines, search history, use conditions

27.2.2021 (with 1 H too)
Reading comprehension of the web page “Talking Points: Promoting Self-Esteem Online” by webwise.ie
Work on vocabulary (teenage life, positive benefits, share of ups and downs, place a lot of value in, to make or break your mood or self-esteem, to gain perspective, self-expression, building relationships, to get social validation, getting something thumbs up, unreasonable benchmarks, level of confidence or self-esteem, peers, carers)
Writing skills: Why is the online world so important to young people?
Debating: How do you feel about the amount of likes or interactions your online posts receive? Have you ever deleted a post because it didn’t get enough likes?
